Library 2

So much is happening with the web. How do we pick the stayers rather than the trendy here now - gone tomorrow. So many of our libraries users are not aware of what options are available. How does the library community decide where to spend its limited resources?

I think that this is one of the biggest challenges for librarians, especially in public libraries.

We have a responsibility in the community to promote information literacy, and provide an opportunity to bridge those knowledge gaps that currently exist.

However, as many people are realising through Learning 2.0, the very task of "keeping up" and remaining information literate involves a substantial amount of Real Work.

In the end, it really comes down to the question, "What information skills to I need to become a participative citizen?" Whilst many of the Web 2.0 tools would be beneficial to the general public, the practical reality remains that most of them will probably remain ignorant of them, simply because they don't "Need to Know".
